I Spend Too Much Time Doing This Every Day
Well folks, it is day two of “the experiment.” Once again I’ll sketch some of the post for tomorrow and then I’ll go to bed. In the morning I’ll flesh things out a bit and we’ll see how it turns out. I got home from work this evening a bit after six. I worked till a little after five today because things were clicking along and I wasn’t at a good stopping place right at five. After leaving work I drove to a little park down by the James river. I intended to take a little walk and hopefully make a few photographs as I went. I grabbed my camera. Stuck my earphones in my ears, started my audio book, and headed off down the...
Getting Bored? Try a Change-Up
There comes a time in every mans life when he wonders if the way he is doing something is really the way he should be doing it. Many times this is simply an excuse to try something new. Other times it is rooted in the short attention span and lack of drive to get things done the man posseses. And it would seem plausible that there would be other reasons for such behavior. Whatever the reason. There are times that we like doing things a bit differently. It isn’t that we are looking for a different outcome necessarily (although some times that is precisely what we are looking for). It can also be for other reasons, like we would like to get to work a...
Oops the Cavaliers Are Down Two Games
Last night the Golden State Warriors won game two of the 2016 NBA Finals. They are playing the Cleveland Cavaliers in a seven game series to determine who is this year's champion. Last year it was these same two teams in this same position. The Warriors ended up with the trophy and through two games this year things aren't looking too good for Cleveland. The Warriors have rolled through the first two games winning by an average of 24 points. (At least if I did my math right. 15 in game one and 33 in game two.) But this isn't a blog about sports. I really don't care much whether the Splash brothers (Steph Curry and Klay Thompson) make it two championships in a row...
Lies We Keep Telling Ourselves – And Hope
I don’t know about you, but I tend to tell myself a number of lies over and over. I'll get up early. I'll be a better person next time. I'll get out of bed in five minutes. I’ll start exercising. I’ll eat better. I’ll really get out of bed in five minutes. I’ll help that person out next time. What do the words “to lie” mean? To speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, as with intent to deceive. So, perhaps calling statements to oneself like those above lies is a bit heavy handed. I know I don’t often say these kinds of things to myself “with the intent to deceive.” I really do mean them when I say or think them. Let’s Talk About Hope...
The Art of Not Writing A Book
For quite some time now I’ve had a desire to write a book. I’m not entirely sure where that desire comes from. Is it that I want to be recognized the world over as an author? Is it that I just want to feel like I’m potentially helping people with whatever I’d write about? To be honest I’m not entirely sure where the desire comes from, it’s a pretty deep question, and not one that I want to get into this morning. The biggest issue with the actual writing of the book has been this, every time I start on one I tend to get scatter brained, or I lose focus and get bored. Other times I simply get tired and go to bed. Or...
Current State of My Mind on This #30DaysofWriting Project
Over the weekend I decided to do some math and see exactly how far I was through this current project of writing and publishing a blog post each week day for 30 week days straight. I was a bit taken aback at how long I’ve been doing this and how many more weeks it will be till I finish. Sure, it’s pretty basic math. If you write for 5 days each week and you are going to write for a total of 30 days… you simply divide 30 by 5. It’ll take 6 weeks to complete the project. I guess I didn’t do the math before I started. It’ll be the middle of June till I finish. Quitting Someone I know started a 365 day...
