So… I was going to come up with something pithy and beautiful to write about this week, but alas I have entered the eleventh hour once again, and I don’t have such a post ready. That means that this post will once again be a summary of my week here in Budapest.
Let’s start right after the blog post published last week.
Saturday actually turned into a “do all the things I skipped for a week” kind of day. Because I flew Friday and arrived and crashed on Saturday the week before and wasn’t sleeping properly the rest of the first week, I had a bunch of little things that needed to be done last Saturday. I decided instead of heading out early I would instead stay here at the apartment, finish my chores, and then head out.
I finally left my place in the early afternoon, walked out my door and turned left. Then I walked straight till I hit the bank of the Danube at which point I turned left again and headed south along the river.
I guess I do things bit differently than some people when it comes to exploring a new city. I like to do a lot of hiking and seeing as apposed to spending time doing particular activities, taking tours, or things like that. Perhaps its because I’m a huge introvert, or perhaps its because I’m a bit of a tight wad… not really sure why all it is to be honest, but that’s kind of how it works for me.
So, I walked down the Danube past three bridges before turning and crossing the 4th bridge, the Freedom Bridge. As the day started to fade towards darkness I started the several mile hike back the way I had come, this time on the west side of the river.
As I got parallel to the parliament building, the lights came on. Wow, that is an incredible thing to look at!
Sunday was pretty quiet. I didn’t do a whole lot. Yep, that’s right… I took it pretty easy. Sorry to let you down. Apparently I don’t have the huge desire to “get out and do stuff” that a lot of people I know do. 🙂
A couple of mornings this week I pried myself out of bed at a decently early hour. At home I had been getting up around 4:45 a.m. and finding it quite nice to start the day early, I still haven’t gotten to that hour here yet (not sure I will, jet lag was not much fun the first week or so), but the early mornings I did get out, did prove to be a great time to hike around and take pictures of the city.
Week days were pretty “normal” this week. Filled with a fair bit of work along with some foraging for food and supplies. Aldi, Lidl and Prima have been my main source of groceries thus far.
And that brings us to this evening, its Friday evening as I write this… and it is definitely past my bed time. It’s 10 p.m.
A Couple Final Things
Update on the goals side of things… a lot of what I set out to do at the beginning of this year has proven to be somewhat difficult over the past two weeks, simply because I have more things vying for my time. The truth is I’ve slipped on a bunch of my goals. I’ll revisit them all in a blog post at some point…
One of the main goals that I am still holding myself to is publishing a video each week. While I have a lot of footage, it’s been a bit hard to weave it into anything other than a “slide show,” I guess that means I’ll need to do a “Budapest Trip 2019” overview once I get home. Any way, this week I published Shoes on the Danube a short “glimpse” of one of the monuments that struck me here in Budapest.
I’ve also been publishing a photo a day and the occasional story over on Instagram, so if you’re into the Instagram world feel free to follow along over there.
Other than that I’m mostly just doing what I absolutely need to. It’s amazing how work and fending completely for myself while being outside of the comfort zone of home, also combined with the fascinating things around this city… well most of my time ends up being pretty much taken up.
Have a wonderful week!
I’ll leave you with a number of my photos from this week. Ones that weren’t posted on Instagram. You’ll have to go over there to see those… 🙂
