My Top 10 Favorite Podcasts – Mid 2019

Once again I find myself sitting at my computer in the predawn darkness, sipping a cup of coffee, and working through a “down to the wire” writing and editing session for this weeks blog article.

In last weeks post I mentioned that I really needed to start “writing throughout the week” so that I could simply hit “publish” on Saturday mornings… well, lets just say that I didn’t do very well on that front this week either. I guess I did at least jot some ideas down earlier in the week, and I did go fishing a few mornings this week during times when I could have been writing. So, maybe thats progress? :)

Enough about writing… in this post I thought I’d tell you about my top 10 favorite podcasts. Podcasting is growing by leaps and bounds right now, and it is an industry and platform that I find downright fascinating. It is fascinating enough to me that one of my goals for the year is to start a podcast. Although I have technically accomplished that with a podcast for my families farm, I’m working on ideation on several other podcast fronts.

In this post I’ll talk briefly about why I love podcasts, and then we’ll go through the actual list of my top 10 favorite podcasts right now.

Its Time to Start Again

It is currently Sunday morning. I’m sitting at a picnic table at the pond on the back of my dad’s place. When you read this it’ll be Monday morning (at least), so once again I am late on my weekly “Saturday morning” post.

Most of my weeks recently have been a bit “out of the ordinary,” but perhaps that is only true if “ordinary” is based off of an average week in January or February. Life is busy for everyone, and generally spring and summer increase the busyness of life. I guess I should quit complaining, or perhaps I’m “just being honest.”

Over the last two months or so I’ve found myself starting to drop the ball on a number of the goals that I made at the beginning of the year. While I tell myself that the main reason was a major up tick in busyness, if I’m honest with myself, it’s probably a bit more complex than just that.

At any rate, it’s been a little while since I’ve shared a run down of my yearly goals and how they have been going. So, in this post we’ll take a look at most of my goals for this year. For each one I’ll talk about how it has been going, and I’ll wrap each goal up with any changes I’m going to make, if any, going forward.

Taking Memorial Day Weekend Off… Kind Of…

It’s Sunday morning.

Something happened yesterday that hasn’t happened thus far this year.

I realized about half way through the day that I had completely forgotten to publish an article this week.

Even “worse” was the realization that I had completely forgotten to write an article this week!

So, I guess I’m taking this Memorial weekend off, besides this short update explaining that there won’t be an article. :)

I know its just an excuse, but the last month and a half have been filled to the brim with things to do. I’m actually a bit surprised that I didn’t miss a weekend earlier.

The Robe and What it Made me Think

It is Friday morning and I’m sitting in the Snack Shack. It’s raining a little bit, not much more than sprinkling, but the sun should be out in an hour or so and then the PYO strawberry patch will likely get busy. The Snack Shack will probably get busy too.

I thought I should probably take advantage of a few quiet minutes here and work on tomorrows blog post. It won’t be a long post, probably on the short side actually, but I wanted to explore a few thoughts that I’ve been having this morning.

Over the last few days I’ve been reading a book, The Robe by Lloyd Douglas. Rather than reading the actual hard cover book, like I did many years ago, I am listening to it using Audible. Every 6 months or so I find myself thinking about this story and go back to listen to it again. At just over 22 hours of run time it does take a little while to listen to, but I’m familiar enough with the story that listening at 1.75 times speed works quite well.

I won’t go into the story too much because I don’t want to give away many details. I’d rather if you would grab the book from the library to read, or downloaded it from Audible to listen to yourself.

Tired on a Saturday

It’s almost 6 a.m. on this Saturday morning. I’ve got a good cup of coffee that I can grab from time to time. A fan is oscillating lazily nearby creating some white noise while also stirring the air.

I only have about a half an hour to write this post and get it ready to publish. The last half of the task will take about seven minutes, so really I’m down to about nineteen minutes. I guess I should get to writing instead of pontificating on things around the situation.

A few weeks ago I wrote about being honest even if not everything has been figured out completely. This morning I thought I’d do a little bit of that. :)

Doing the Subject Justice

I had a great idea for a blog article this week. It’s one of those subjects that I’ve been meaning to write about for a long time.

As soon as I had the idea I started a note in my writing app of choice Bear and threw together a bit of an outline. Once I had a number of “headline” sections, I went back through and started adding ideas in each section.

I don’t always make an outline, in fact my writing happens in a lot of different ways. This article you’re reading is basically me sitting and typing in a “stream of conscience” manner. For other articles where the subject is a tad complex or I want to make sure I touch on a number of points, I generally start with an outline.

So, for this article I was working on, I started to flesh out the sections one by one. As I worked I kept thinking of additional things I needed to include. Those ideas went into new sections. Before I new it the Bear note bloomed into a full fledged “whole bunch of words.”
